About CEPOL

CEPOL is a European Union (EU) Agency, established in 2005 (Council Decision 2005/681/JHA of 20 September 2005). CEPOL's mission is to bring together senior police officers from police forces in Europe - essentially to support the development of a network - and encourage cross-border cooperation in the fight against crime, public security and law and order by organising training activities and research findings.

The CEPOL Governing Board is made up of representatives from the EU Member States, usually the Directors of the National Police Training colleges. Each delegation has one voting member. The Chair of the Governing Board is a representative of the Member State holding the Presidency of the European Union. Read more...



Four committees have been established by the Governing Board to support its work: the Annual Programme Committee (APC), Budget and Administration Committee (BAC), Training and Research Committee (TRC) and Strategy Committee (SC). Based at Bramshill, 70 km west of London, CEPOL's Secretariat has about 30 staff members who carry out the day-to-day work of the agency within two units: the Programme Unit and the Administration Unit. The Secretariat is managed by a Director appointed by CEPOL's Governing Board. Read more...

Although CEPOL was established as agency of the European Union (EU) in 2005, CEPOL's history goes back slightly further. At a meeting in Tampere on 15-16 October 1999, the European Council agreed that a European Police College (CEPOL) should be established to train senior officers of police forces. Read more...
